If the student is going to renew their visa, then they should renew the policy. You can continue with your existing insurer or find a new provider.
- If the student would like to continue with the same provider, we can send the link for the extension to the student. The membership number will remain the same in most of the cases.
- If the student decides to change providers, then they can create a new application from oshcaustralia.com.au and proceed to the payment as usual. The student will get a new membership number, which is the one they will have to use for the visa renewal application.
If the OSHC policy has expired, then the student is currently in breach of the student visa. This can have significant consequences for the ability to stay and study in Australia. Furthermore, if the student becomes sick or is injured, the student could be liable for very significant medical expenses for which the student will not be covered by any insurance.
If the student would like to change providers but is hesitant as they have already served the waiting period with that first insurer, then they will need to request a clearance certificate from the previous insurer. That way, the student won’t have to serve the waiting period again if they decide to purchase the insurance with a different provider.
